Obituary for Charles A Rue

East Amwell Twp.: Charles A. Rue, 67, died peacefully in his home on Monday, November 11th. Born in Baxley, Georgia, Charley was raised in Princeton, NJ and resided in East Amwell Twp. for the past 40 years. He spent his summers on Long Beach Island and could always be spotted sailing the Barnegat Bay. He was an avid photographer of birds, nature, and family. Charley was a member of the National Audubon Society, the Cornell Lab of Ornithology, the ACLU, and the Sourland Mountain Conservancy. A passionate environmental activist and a lifelong student of the natural world, he constantly strove to offset his own greenhouse gas emissions. He had a quick wit and loved a good joke. Charley spent his final days at home enjoying time with his family, and never lost his wonderful sense of humor. Son of the late Matthew and Annette Lynch Rue, he is survived by his wife of 37 years, Cynthia Wood-Rue, his son Brandon Rue, his daughter Amelia Troast and her husband Tyler, his honorary daughter Carrie Flynn and her husband William, his siblings, Kristin Rue, Robert Rue and his wife Bonnie Richmond, Matthew Rue and his wife Susan McCloskey, Dency Tangtrakul, Margaret Rue and her husband Herb Henschke, his mother-in-law Cora Wood, brother- and sister-in-law Robert and Maryann Wood, his father-in-law Robert Wood, and many nieces and nephews. He cherished his time with Annabelle and Lincoln Troast, his grandchildren who knew him as Popeye. He is additionally survived by Lucy, his beloved Jack Russell Terrier. A memorial service will be held at a later date in Harvey Cedars, NJ. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to two causes near to his heart.
