Obituary for Gloria Garefino

Gloria Garefino, 92 died peacefully in her home on November 20, 2023, surrounded by family.

Born April 2, 1931, in her family Stockton home, which she loved and lived in her entire life. She was a member of St. John the Evangelist Roman Catholic Church, attending St. Agnes Church. Gloria was a member of St. John’s Altar and Rosary Society.

A very civic minded person, the Stockton Borough Council designated April 2 as Gloria Garefino Day as recognition for her volunteering back to the Borough. She was one of the founding members of the Stockton Playground Association. Gloria was a past-president and one of the longest serving and most active members of the Stockton Fire Company Ladies Auxiliary. She was also a member of the Lambertville Senior Citizens.

Gloria graduated from Lambertville High School and went on to receive her beautician license from La Tour Academy of Beauty Culture. Gloria was the proprietor of her successful Hair Salon, “Gloria’s Beauty Shop” for 57 years. She also owned Gloria’s Linen and Gift shop for 45 years. Gloria enjoyed gardening and holding big family parties. She was a social butterfly entertaining family and friends was the joy of her life.

Gloria was the youngest of 13 children to the late Clemente Garefino and Maddelena Bova Garefino. She is the sister of her late brothers Anello, Thomas, Michael, Anthony, Dominic, and Charles Garefino, and sisters Reba Guarnieri, Bernice Ragusa, Catherine Buttillo, Caroline Mattiello, Rose Celli and Josephine Weiss.

Gloria is survived by, her son Joseph Garefino, his wife Susan, and her beloved granddaughter, Victoria Garefino, along with several nieces and nephews.

Family and friends may gather Monday November 27 at 10:30 am at the Garefino Funeral Home, 12 N. Franklin St. Lambertville, NJ, prior to the celebration of a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:30 am at St. John the Evangelist Roman Catholic Church, 44 Bridge St. Lambertville. Burial will follow in the parish cemetery. Calling hours will be Sunday November 26 from 2-4 pm at the funeral home.
