Obituary for Gustav "Gus" Schumacher

Delaware Twp. Gustav G. Schumacher, 89 died Saturday January 16, 2021 at his home.

Born and raised in Philadelphia, Pa. Gus had lived in Delaware Twp. since 1957. Gus served in the United States Navy during the Korean War. One of his proudest accomplishments while serving in the US Navy was that he was part of the evaluation of the First Canted Deck Aircraft Carrier in US Naval History.

For a number of years he worked alongside his father making handmade dental instruments at Varsity Dental in Lambertville. He retired from the United States Post Office as a rural mail carrier working out of the Ringoes office. He was a member of the Stockton Rod and Gun Club, the Lambertville Elks Lodge, a contribution member to the Stockton Fire Company and was an avid hunter and fisherman.

Son of the late Gustav and Lillian Schumacher, he is survived by his wife of 64 years Geraldine Errico Schumacher, one son David Schumacher and his wife Lorraine and his granddaughter whom he adored Olivia Schumacher.

Graveside services will be held Thursday January 21, at 11:00 am at the Rosemont Cemetery under the direction of the Garefino Funeral Home in Lambertville.
