Obituary for Joseph K Kerekes Sr.

Whitehouse Station: Joseph K. Kerekes, Sr., passed Saturday November 20, 2021 at the Hunterdon Care Center.

Born in Queens, NY Joe had been raised in Baptistown on the Gordeuk Dairy Farm, and in Pittstown NJ. At the age of 20 he started to learn the carpenter trade and moved to Florida and joined the carpenter’s union.

A strong willed man and a survivor of Polio, he strived to do his best. His wit was sharp and his sense of humor was almost unbearably corny and he was always ready with a joke or a laugh. He loved being in the country, animals, fishing and was family oriented. He was a simple man who enjoyed simple things, like coffee and toast at sunset. He loved woodworking and always crafted clever items and walking sticks. He was passionate about everything about the 1950s especially the cars and the music. His heart never truly left that decade. Though he didn't have much he took great pride in taking care of the things that he had.

Son of the late Joseph and Irma Lakatos Kerekes, he is survived by his sons Joseph Kerekes Jr. and Jeffery Guy Kerekes and wife Jennifer, and one daughter Jennifer Durborow. His 4 grandchildren are named, Ashton, Brandon, Ryan, and Nathan.

A memorial service will be held Saturday November 27 at 3:00 pm at the Garefino Funeral Home, 12 N. Franklin St. Lambertville, NJ.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Hunterdon Humane Animal Shelter, 576 Stamets Rd., Milford NJ 08848.
