Obituary for Joseph "Joe" Yannarella Sr.

Joseph (Joe) Yannarella, Sr. passed away peacefully on March 5, 2024. He was born on January 13, 1941, in Trenton, NJ to Daniel & Philomena Yannarella. Raised in Lambertville, NJ, Joe was the youngest of 5 children. Joe was proud of his Italian heritage and worked in his parent’s restaurant “Phil & Dan’s Italian Kitchen” as a young man. He married his high school sweetheart Dolores Ellmers on May 13, 1961. They were married 62 years. He attended Lambertville High School & was an outstanding athlete. He was named All-State quarterback and excelled in football, basketball and baseball.

Joe was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather. He always had a smile on his face and loved to laugh. He was employed by the State of New Jersey as a Security Officer. During that time, he was hit by a drunk driver on December 21, 1972, at the young age of 31. He suffered irreversible brain damage. His life changed forever but he never gave up. He showed extraordinary strength and determination. He gave life his all. His family moved to McLoud, OK in 1976 and Edmond, OK in 1998. He recently moved to Yukon, OK.

Joe loved his New York Yankees, New York Giants and Notre Dame. He never adapted to being an OU fan. Joe loved his family, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. He was their Pop-Pop. He was always ready to “go” on the drop of a dime. Just give him a cup of coffee and he was ready. Even though walking and balance became hard, he never gave up. He was faithful to the end to his wife, family and was a devout Catholic. He attended St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Edmond. For many years, Joe participated in the Time-Out Program. Joe loved everyone and everyone loved him. Joe fought his final battle with courage and every ounce of strength he had. It was time to let go. God needed Joe. We have wonderful and beautiful memories that will forever light the comers of our mind.
