Obituary for Lorna Bate

Lorna Bate, recently of Warrington, Pennsylvania, passed away on October 13, 2021 at the age of 93.

She was born on July 27, 1928 in Goodenow, Illinois, the only child of Walter and Minnie Bruns. She attended Crete schools moving to Peotone Illinois after her marriage to Donald Bate on June 5, 1949 and they created a very fulfilling life together, farming, designing her own home, gardening, planning every detail of the family vacations, preparing fantastic meals and making every holiday special. She was an amazing mother and always looked on the bright side. Her favorite saying was, “If you can’t say something nice about someone, don’t say it at all.”

She was a long time active member of the First Presbyterian Church in Peotone and she was employed by the United States Postal Service for 22 years. Lorna and Don were inseparable partners who enjoyed traveling throughout the world. They wintered in Islamorada, Florida for 20 years and enjoyed every moment.

She is survived by her husband of 72 years, Donald Bate, two daughters, Marcia (Tim) Ennis of Stuart Florida, Sherry (Kirk) Hoover of Alpharetta, Georgia, four grandchildren and four great grandchildren.

She will be laid to rest privately at the Peotone Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, please raise a glass of her favorite, iced Pinot Grigio to celebrate her life!
