Obituary for Peggy B Cekoric

Peggy Barnes Cekoric, 80, of West Amwell Township New Jersey died peacefully at her home with her family, where she has lived for over 35 years. Born January 24, 1940 on Staten Island, New York, to the late William and Eustelle Barnes, Peggy was a proud New Yorker who loved to celebrate her Irish heritage. Peggy was a registered nurse whose career began at St. Vincent’s Hospital on Staten Island. It was while working at Doctors Hospital also on Staten Island where she met and married her husband of 55 years, Tom Cekoric. She later worked as a substitute school nurse at South Hunterdon High School. Peggy received a bachelor’s degree from St. Joseph’s College in Maine, and a master’s degree from the College of St. Elizabeth in New Jersey. She was active member of St. James Parish in Pennington, NJ and became an Associate of the Sisters of Charity of New York, serving as its first lay Director. The first to plan a trip or get together, Peggy was always up for an adventure. She loved hiking and walking, especially with her dog on the towpath in Lambertville. She spent many years sailing in Maryland and enjoyed spending time with family and friends. She especially enjoyed sledding, swimming, and making sandcastles with her children and grandchildren. The first person on the dance floor, Peggy loved a good party. Youngest sister to the late William Barnes and Donald Barnes, Peggy is survived by her husband of over 55 years Tom Cekoric and her sister, Sr. Carol Barnes along with many cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends. A loving mother of five, Peggy always put her children first. She is now at peace with her late son Michael Cekoric and is survived by her daughter and son-in-law Carol Anne and Gregory Ent, her son and daughter-in-law Thomas and Terry Cekoric, her daughter-in law Suzanne Cekoric, her daughter Tricia Cekoric, her son and fiancé Mathew Cekoric and Karly Klein and her daughter-in-law Heidi Cekoric. Peggy had a great pride and love for her husband and children, her smile was brightest when she heard someone call for their Nanny (or Nanny Peggy). There was no greater joy for her than spending time with and talking about her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Her grandsons, Christian and Ryan Ent; her granddaughters and their families, Calla and Chris Senss, Madalyn and Ethan Pell, Michaela Cekoric and Bijou and Anthony Cox; her greatgrandchildren, Peyton and Jameson Senss, Amelia Pell, and Charlotte Cox. Peggy was a strong and selfless woman and will forever be remembered for her smile, her laugh, her kindness and love along with a little bit of mischief, just for fun. Family and friends will be received at Garefino’s Funeral Home, 12 N. Franklin St. Lambertville, NJ, Sunday, September 20, from 1:00-3:00 pm. Due to the current circumstances of Covid-19 please know her family fully understands that not all are able to pay their respects in person and ask that you remember her in your thoughts and prayers.
