Obituary for Simeraldo N "Simmie" Cifelli Sr.

Simeraldo N. Cifelli, Sr. (“Simmie”) 78, peacefully passed away at home Tuesday, February 7, 2023 surrounded by his loving family.

A lifelong resident of Lambertville, Simmie was a member of St. John the Evangelist Roman Catholic Church where he made all his sacraments and even served as an altar boy. At the young age of 16 he started working at Cifelli’s Sunoco Station for his brother Mike, who was like a father to him, pumping gas and later working as a master auto mechanic along with his nephew Michael. Simmie retired from Cifelli’s Sunoco and later owned his own shop at his home in West Amwell Township. Many years later he enjoyed working a part-time job and developing a palett for red wine at the Wonderful World of Wines in Lambertville (now currently owned by his brother and sister-in-law). Simmie was a member and officer at the former Young Men’s Athletic Club in Lambertville and was also a member of the Lambertville Elks Lodge. Years ago, Simmie spent many hours coaching for the Lambertville-West Amwell Baseball League. He enjoyed a good game of poker, Texas Hold-Em tournaments and horse racing. Over everything else, nothing pleased him more than an excellent meal and spending time with his wife, children and grandchildren whom he loved very deeply.

Son of the late Simeraldo N. Cifelli and Amy Pettit Cifelli, brother of the late Michael N. Cifelli, Sr., Dominic Cifelli, Joyce Eichlin, Angeline Bowman, Jean Bedford, and his best friend and cousin Neal Esposito, he is survived by his wife of 55 years Sarah “Sally” Schermerhorn Cifelli, his daughter Robin L. Cifelli, his son Simeraldo “Sim” Cifelli and his wife Dana, his grandchildren Nicholas Dolan, Angela and Carmela Cifelli, his nephew and best friend Michael N. Cifelli, Jr., his niece Alice Ann Schermerhorn and her husband Michael, and several other nieces, nephews and extended family members, especially Jill and Charles Slack, and many long-time friends.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday, February 11, at 11:00 am at St. John the Evangelist Roman Catholic Church, Bridge St., Lambertville. Burial will be private and held at the convenience of the family. Calling hours will be Friday, February 10, from 5-8 pm at the Garefino Funeral Home, 12 N. Franklin St. Lambertville, NJ.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Serenity Hospice, 56 Georgetown Rd., Bordentown, NJ 08505.
